Meet Marie-Clare - Sustainable Cake Designer in Berkhamsted

I’m Marie-Clare, a cake designer from Berkhamsted, specialising in Novelty and Floral cakes and a mum of three, or 7 if you count our whippet and 3 Bantam chickens. My two passions are gardening and baking.
My kids love cake, obviously! and the look on their faces when I bring out their birthday cake creation is priceless. Every year they request more adventurous designs and as my experience has grown, I have become more excited and enamored by cake design.
However, not everyone wants a character or novelty cake, and so, I have also looked elsewhere for inspiration.
I love being outside surrounded by nature. As a keen gardener, I’ve always loved growing fruit and vegetables and more recently have become fascinated by edible flowers and plants, there is such a large variety of amazing colours, forms and textures. These provide a striking and natural alternative to fondant and create beautiful floral cakes as well as being a sustainable form of decoration.
Sustainability is a way of life close to my heart and plays a fundamental role in my family’s daily life. We strive to be an eco-friendly household; we use refillables as much as possible, recycle, avoid harmful cleaning products and buy locally sourced, organic produce, topping up with our own homegrown veg when the caterpillars and slugs allow!
I love the creativity that cake making allows, thinking up flavour combinations and turning a special occasion into a truly memorable one with my personalised cakes. I want to inspire my kids to follow their dreams, and being able to combine these passions of mine into my cake business is an amazing privilege.
